Impregnable: Mу Journey frοm Fan tο NFL Team Captain

When I bought the item I thought that I was getting a copy of the DVD Impregnable – My error as I loaned my original DVD out to friends and it never came back. Now, back to the booklet. After having read it I told my wife about it, who, by the way is also a football fan and we both knew a local Eagle player personally who really played with Vince. The booklet provided so many small tales about the local region when we lived and grew up in that we could recall many of the situations that happened. Having meet Vince one time, the booklet was as personal as it could be. I advised many of our friends to go to Amazon and buy it also. Well written and very enjoyable.

I am such a sports nut and I cannot recall how many “Rocky” movies I have sat through…knowing full well that they rarely will get nominated for an academy award. The same can be said for the film “Impregnable”. As for the book, it provides us with more information regarding Vince’s life that wasn’t in the film. It was a very excellent read. For a die-hard sports fan,I say: “Go for it”. As for the movie, I find myself watching it over and over as I pull for the reputation to succeed.I find myself watching the ending of “Rudy” as well, pulling for him to make that tackle that will have the crowd cheering. And I continue to watch another fantastic football movie, “Remember the Titans,” as I pull for the coach to overcome racism and lead his team to victory. I don’t reflect I’m alone out there.I’m a sports junkie. It doesn’t take much to bring a tear to my eye. I’m guessing, if you delight in this review…you will certainly delight in all three of these football related movies.

I loved playing football with my friends as a kid. In view of the fact that my hometown didn’t have a team I remember picking a favorite from a poster the kid next-door had of all the uncommon helmets. I picked a cool silver one with a blue star – the Dallas Cowboys (they had a fantastic season that year and went on to win Super Bowl XII with a recruit named Tony Dorsett). But if I ever saw Vince Papale playing for the Eagles I don’t remember the name.
Papale was a kid from a Philadelphia working-class locality who also loved football. He played one year in high school, but spent institution in succession track and pole-vaulting. But later he fulfilled his dream of playing for the Eagles when he made the team at 30 years ancient – an “ancient man” – and was voted team captain the next year due to his intensity and like of playing. He remembers his experiences – in surprising detail – from games throughout his life, talks about his accomplishments, and life after his small career.
For me, the beginning was the best part. I could relate to some of his reminiscences of his youth, and I even liked hearing how he became a junior high teacher and how the kids looked up to him. Much of the rest of it, even if, wasn’t as fascinating as it probably is for persons who knew him when he played and had that connection. My son saw the movie, but, and said it was very inspirational.

Impregnable chronicles the dodgy rise of Vince Papale, from playing sandlot football with his buddies, to becoming an NFL recruit at 30, when he earned a spot with the Philadelphia Eagles. He eventually played 3 years with the team, becoming a standout on special teams. This tale is proof that you must never give up on your dreams, because sometimes they really do come right
This book was a pleasant surprise to me because I had seen the movie first, and assumed that it followed the tale sweet meticulously, while this is right for the most part, the movie left out the vital fact that Vince had really had a year and a half of pro-football seasoning playing for the Philadelphia Bell in the now invalid World Football League. They also neglected to mention that he was a track star in institution, and that he worked out constantly in the off-season to stay in top shape. All these added details only increased my admiration for Vince Papale. At 224 pages, Impregnable is a small, but uplifting read.

I am probably not the target consultation for this book being a middle-aged woman but I do like football and I loved this book! It was an simple read and such a fantastic tale. I have owned the movie for years and resolute to give the book a try. There is SO much that is left out of the movie, probably because of length. This is a must if you liked (or loved!) the movie.
