Why do NFL coaches sometimes choose to run a draw play on a third and long situation?

being conservative. perhaps they have a crappy QB and don’t want to risk a turnover, especially if they are close to their own goal line, so they just run the safe draw and punt it. Also, if they are in FG range, they might just take the 3 points rather than risk a turnover. it’s a smart play sometimes, but I prefer a screen pass in persons situations.

Because the defense is going to be in the family way a pass and playing the recievers tight. You run a draw to catch them off gaurd.
They do it to confuse the defense, sometimes it works somtimes not lol
The defense is in the family way a pass and insert additional defensive backs into the game. It is simpler to run against this formation, and a draw can catch the defense off protect.
Because most teams will bring a huge blitz and the receivers won’t be able to have enough time to make it to the first down marker by the time the quarterback gets pummeled.
On know pass plays the d line usually swings around outside leaving the middle open for the draw.
You just have to keep the defense honest.
