Why doesn’t the NFL branch out and try to develop international players?
Similar tο thе way European soccer teams dο. Mοѕt teams hаνе “academies” аll over thе world whеrе star youth players attend school bυt mainly focus οn developing soccer skills.
Mу qυеѕtіοn іѕ whу don’t NFL teams ѕtаrt tο dο thіѕ wіth nfl academies іn Europe, Australia, аnd even Africa.
I reflect іt wουld hеlр thе globalization οf football аnd bring nеw talent tο thе league a few years down thе road. Once a player becomes a star іn thе NFL frοm a foreign country thаt country’s interest levels wіll rise drastically.
Why? NFL doesn’t need international recognition. What excellent would it do?
Football is America’s sport,it must stay that way.
They already tried that, NFL Europe, it only lasted through 2007 because they wanted to try regular season NFL games in London.
They are trying to renovate interest by playing games in England. I believe after they see the results they might deliberate doing something. If the thought fails they could lose a lot of money and the NFL can’t afford to do that. That’s why they’re taking their time,
The fact is that nobody really cares outside of the US.
Why doesn’t the NFL just focus on getting more asian, latino, and I don’t know maybe some more white players on NFL rosters! They have the rooney rule for minortity coaches. What about a rule for more “other than black” players on the field?
Simple. Because many athletes in the world are not raised to play football at a young age and renovate into elite football players. But, there is a country that does give a tiny amount of football players that play in the NFL and they come from Canada. They have a Canadian league.
Thumbs up to persons who agree.
The NFL is an American sport. It’s welcome to players from other countries but we don’t really need to go to other countries for talent. We have all the talent in the world right here at home.
The NFL already does this, and has signed a large number of international players over the past few years. Each NFL team has a international scouting department as well as a national scouting department (focusing on institution athletes).
The international department glide around the world looking for untapped potential. Mostly it is special teams players who get noticed (kickers, punters) as kicking the ball is an international action and some former Soccer and Australian Rules players have been signed by NFL teams. There was an Australian Rugby players who was recruited in the 80′s named Collin Scotts, who was later signed by the St.Louis Cardinals and played on the defensive line for a few seasons. He was noticed my US scouts while playing a local Sydney Rugby game!! You never know when the scouts are watching.
The truth is that tales like Collin Scotts are rare because it takes a extremely impressive athlete to make the NFL go to the vex of first flying a player out to th US for try-outs, and then is they are attracted, trying to secure US citizenship for that self. It’s alot of effort and expense when they have 100,000 US athletes who can run, bench, squat as much as the prospect.
Football is an American sport and thats the way its gonna stay. The NFL does have NFL Europa which is like a minor league for persons who didnt make the NFL or persons who got drafted but got sent there to work out the kinks.
In Europe we have Rugby. > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_nBTmRc9LI
Most Europeans see American Football as a watered down version of Rugby and would have no interest. We are far more attracted in the Six Nations http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUTlUrTowqg and Heineken Cup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8UlXuJzaaY than the Superbowl and I would say the Higher ups in the NFL know that, the same right of the Aussies and the South Africans with the Super 14 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_14
