The goal of the College Football Performance Awards:

The goal of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

As many scholars have noted, CFPA eliminates the politics and biases that vitiate the college football awards process. Renown sports ethicist Gordon Marino states, “The biases in the (balloting-based) college football awards process are behemoth.” National Security Agency Science Consultant Amy Langville writes, “A rigorous scientific methodology such as CFPA is a welcome addition for fans and players demanding equity in sports awards.” And philosopher Paul Studtmann adds, “CFPA finally answers the question everyone is really asking: Who are the top performers in college football?”

Stillwater, OK (PRWEB) April 21, 2009

Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant was recently announced as the recipient of the 2008 Wide Receiver Trophy from the College Football Performance Awards. The announcement took place during the intermission between the 1st and 2nd quarters at the 2009 Oklahoma State spring game. During the announcement, the College Football Performance Awards conferred a large crystal trophy to Bryant at midfield, inspiring an enthusiastic standing ovation from the Oklahoma State crowd. Bryant later remarked, “It’s an honor. I love this game – football is my passion.”

Bryant Selection Facts:

Bryant finished the 2008 season with the highest receiving rating (.1924) in Division I FBS college football, besting other top receivers: Kansas’s Dezmon Briscoe (.1887), BYU’s Austin Collie (.1882), and Rice’s Jarett Dillard (.1880). Bryant’s 2008 performance ranks as the strongest wide receiver performance in the past 5 seasons of Division I FBS college football. Since 2000, only Hawaii’s Ashley Lelie (.1948) and Pittsburgh’s Larry Fitzgerald (.1942) have finished seasons with higher receiving ratings.

Methodology:

The College Football Performance Awards used a sophisticated, empirically justified model to determine its 2008 Wide Receiver Trophy recipient. The historic result marks the first time a national college football award has selected a recipient exclusively based upon objective science.

Many top sports scholars, including pre-eminent sports economist Andrew Zimbalist, have participated in a review of this approach. Zimbalist, the Robert A. Woods Professor of Economics at Smith College, expounds, “By employing a careful, vetted empirical methodology, the College Football Performance Awards promises to set straight many of the wrongheaded, arbitrary, and exclusionary methods currently employed to assess player awards in college football.”

2008 Kickoff Specialist Trophy Presentation:

The College Football Performance Awards will present David Buehler with the 2008 Kickoff Specialist Trophy on April 24, 2009. The event will take place at 2 p.m. in the Varsity Lounge of Heritage Hall at the University of Southern California. The historic event marks the first national trophy presentation to a college football kickoff specialist.

Buehler Selection Facts:

Buehler finished the 2008 season with the highest kickoff rating (19.5) in Division I FBS college football. Buehler outperformed other top kickoff specialists including: Utah’s Ben Vroman (19.3), Kansas State’s Brooks Rossman (19.0), and South Carolina’s Ryan Succop (18.5).

2009 Pre-Season Trophy Favorites:

The College Football Performance Awards will confer 14 trophies to Division I FBS college football performers in 2009. A list of the 2009 pre-season trophy favorites and top returning performers will be released later this month.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 11, 2004

Muhsin Muhammad, wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers, ran an 85-yard play to score and made history during Superbowl XXXVIII on February 1st in Houston, Texas. Muhammad was recognized for his record-setting achievement, the longest play from scrimmage in Superbowl history. The NFL veteran also graced the cover of the pre-Superbowl issue of Sports Illustrated.

During a post game press conference, Muhammad expressed his thoughts about the game and his achievement, “Those are the games you live for, the opportunity to have a two-minute drive at the end of the game and catch a game-winning touchdown. As the game was swaying back-and-forth, I was saying to myself, ‘Okay, we’re not going to run the ball. This is going to turn out to be a shoot-out.’ Then they made the play at the end. All the fans out there, if you weren’t a Patriots fan or a Panthers fan, you still got a great game. I thought that both teams played their hearts out, and it took the last play to win it.”

Muhsin Muhammad has proudly worn the #87 jersey for the Carolina Panthers since 1996. The Michigan State graduate and former Pro-Bowler dedicates his time to both the team and the community of Charlotte, NC. He oversees a variety of charity programs including his M2 Foundation for Kids, which provides educational and developmental assistance for young people, and serves as the local spokesperson for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). His philanthropic efforts include a Christmas toy drive program at the football stadium in Charlotte and an annual football camp. Despite his prominence in the community and on the football field, Muhammad remains humble and grounded. “My career has been a success,” Muhammad said in a recent interview with USA Today. “I’m just an inner-city kid from Lansing, Michigan… I’ve made some money. I have a great family. That’s a pretty good life.”

Baylo Entertainment

Muhsin Muhammad is also setting records in the world of entertainment. His entertainment venture, Baylo Entertainment, was founded in 2002 by Muhammad and industry vet Danny Blaq. The company currently includes the Baylo Store (http://www.baylostore.com,) an extensive online distribution network that provides an outlet for the sale of mixtapes, music releases, apparel and magazines. Several Baylo affiliates were recognized with awards during the recent, highly publicized 8th annual Mixtape Awards in New York City. Baylo is also developing a roster of hip-hop and R&B artists and producers and maintains a presence in the community and modeling circuit with the Baylo Girls, an all-female promotional team.

2011 NFL Mock Draft: St. Louis Will Likely Miss Out on Julio Jones at 14th Overall: It was a match made in NFL Draft heaven: St. Louis and Julio Jones. Alabama’s Jones was a highly regarded receiver that would slide to the Rams at 14th overall with Georgia’s A.J. Green as the clear top wide receiver. Then Jones had to go and mess it up. Jones destroyed the NFL Combine, running a 4.39-second 40 …

Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant will remain suspended for the remainder of the football season for lying to NCAA investigators.

The NCAA Football Championship ruled Tuesday that the junior All-American will not be eligible to play until September 2010, possibly bringing his college career to an end if he enters the NFL draft.

Oklahoma State plans to appeal the decision, but athletic department spokesman Kevin Klintworth declined further comment. The university said it could receive a decision on the appeal as early as next week.

The university announced on Oct. 7 that Bryant was ineligible because he lied to the NCAA about his relationship with former NFL star Deion Sanders. He has sat out the last four games for the No. 13 Cowboys (6-1, 3-0 Big 12), who host No. 3 Texas on Saturday night in a game that will likely determine which team plays for the Big 12 NCAA Football Championship.

The NCAA said in a news release that Bryant’s penalty actually constituted “relief” from even more severe penalties for breaking the agency’s rules for ethical conduct and preferential treatment. Bryant could have been forced to miss as few as six games or be permanently ineligible.

The NCAA said mitigating factors presented in Oklahoma State’s case resulted in a lighter penalty for Bryant. The decision was based on whether Bryant “actively and deliberately concealed, omitted or provided inaccurate or false information” to the NCAA and whether he had multiple chances to provide accurate information but did not do so.

E-mail exchanges between an Oklahoma State compliance official and the NCAA indicate that there was concern that Bryant’s meeting with Sanders was a way to connect him to an agent, something Sanders has denied. Bryant claimed in a letter of apology to the NCAA that he jogged briefly with Sanders at a Texas athletics center without breaking a sweat and then went to Sanders’ house for dinner, but did not eat.

Oklahoma State said in its reinstatement request that it would classify the meeting as a violation of NCAA rules prohibiting preferential treatment.

Bryant caught 87 passes for 1,480 yards and 19 touchdowns last season while also scoring twice on punt returns. This season, Bryant led the team with 17 catches for 323 yards and four touchdowns through OSU’s first three games.

While Bryant played in OSU’s first three games, OSU compliance officials were investigating an apparent meeting he had with former NFL players Sanders and Omar Stoutmire that he later lied about to the NCAA Football Championship. Bryant sent a letter with his initial application for reinstatement, asking to play again this season and that his “punishment is not so bad that I do not get to play football again at OSU.”

Bryant has not commented publicly since the university ruled him ineligible because he “failed to openly disclose to the NCAA the full details of his interaction with a former NFL player not affiliated with OSU.” Sanders later identified himself as that player, and Bryant also referred to him in his letter to the NCAA Football Championship.

After his initial suspension, the university released a statement from Bryant saying “I made a mistake by not entirely truthful when meeting with the NCAA Football Championship..”

After analyzing Prince Amukamara as a potential Cowboys draft pick , I told you I wouldn’t be doing a ton of draft analysis until I finish all of my 2010 Player Grades . But it was so much fun, I couldn’t stop. Plus, today’s feature—Cameron Jordan—would play defensive end in a 3-4, and I’ve already graded the Cowboys’ defensive linemen in 2010. In that post, you’ll notice the highest grade …
