NFL – New York Giants reach their fifth straight win after defeating Seattle 41-7

After their bye week, the New York Giants continued its winning streak. This time the team manhandled the Seattle Seahawks 41-7.

The New York Giants is now the third most successful franchise in the NFL. The Giants have achieved seven titles in the NFL, four of them during the era prior to the Super Bowl, (1927, 1934, 1938 and 1956), and three Super Bowl championships (1986, 1990, 2007).

The Giants have also achieved 10 Conference Championships and 15 Division Championships. From 1933 to 2008, the G-Men have participated in thirty NFL postseasons while fifteen of its players have made it into the Hall of Fame.

After finishing in tenth place in the NFC last season with a record of eight wins and eight losses, the Giants should improve that outcome during this current season.

The Giants began the season crushing the Carolina Panthers 31-18. However, the next two weeks the Giants fall against the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, respectively.

The Big Blue managed get back in victory lane after the fourth week of the NFL when they beat the Chicago Bears 17-3. After imposing 34-10 over the Houston Texans and 28-20 over the Detroit Lions, the Giants were back in track. At its last meeting before going to BYE week, the Giants defeated the Cowboys winning 41-35 in their Monday Night Football date.

The Seattle Seahawks are certainly not as competitive as the New York Giants. Although Seattle has had a couple of significant wins this season, such as a 31-6 crushing of the San Francisco 49ers and a 22-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals, the team doesn’t really have much of a chance of reaching the Super Bowl.

During its visit to Seattle, the New York Giants dominated the match from start to finish. Eli Manning, the Giants’ quarterback, was the star of the match effectively handing out great passes.

The clear superiority allowed the Giants to score three touchdowns in the first period. First came a 2-yard carry for Ahmad Bradshaw. Then Hakeem Nicks, after receiving a pass from Manning, ran 46 yards into the end zone. The third was another carry by Bradshaw, this time from 4 yards away.

In the second quarter, the Giants increased their lead thanks to the excellent pass from Manning that resulted in two touchdowns over a 6-yard run by Steve Smith and another of Kevin Boss, who just had to run 5 yards to make the score 35 – 0.

In the third quarter, the visitors finished humiliating the Seahawks and went up 41-0 with two field goals by Lawrence Tynes.

The Seahawks managed to score its only seven points of the match in the fourth quarter, thanks to a 36-yard touchdown by Ben Obonamu.

The Giants were clearly stronger and finished the game with 487 total yards, while Seattle scored only 162. Eli Manning worked for 290 yards, completed 21 passes of 32, for three touchdowns and had no interceptions. This led the Giants as the best team in the NFC, where they are in the lead with a win rate of .750

For his part, Charlie Whitehurst, Seattle’s QB, didn’t had a good turnout in his debut as a starter in the NFL. He completed 12 of 23 passes for 113 yards and suffered two interceptions.

So far, the Seattle Seahawks have recorded four wins and as many defeats. The team is second in the NFC West. St. Louis is the first in the NFC West with the same winning percentage, but the difference is on its favor for more victories at home.

The rivalry between the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders is coming to the new Des Moines activity center on May 3rd. The Des Moines Legacy Foundation in conjunction with the Des Moines Rotary Club’s Dollars For Scholars are hosting the 1st Annual Sports Night in Des Moines. Former Oakland Raider Curt Marsh and several current and past Seattle Seahawks will attend the event and share stories and thoughts on youth sports programs. Marsh, the evenings featured speaker, will share lessons learned from his own struggles and victories which led to personal and team success in a variety of areas which include: NFL football player, businessman, government administrator, and youth advocate. Former Seattle Super Sonic Steve Scheffler will also present his thoughts on how youth sports programs made an impact on his athletic and professional ambitions. Former KOMO TV Sports Director Bruce King will emcee the 6 PM event.

“We’re quite excited about having such an important event in Des Moines,” says Bob Houston, Recreation Manager for the City Of Des Moines. “This gives our community an opportunity to help support programs that may very well help a young person learn the needed skills to pursue their goals and make good decisions about their lives.”

The evenings silent and live auction items include autographed sports collectibles from Tiger Woods, Jeff Gordon, Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant and several others.

Oakland Raiders surprised the previous weekend at the eighth round of the NFL, with a crushing 33-3 victory against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Raiders have managed to conquer twelve titles in AFC West, three Super Bowls (1976, 1980 and 1983) and have featured thirteen players on the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Oakland started the 2010/11 season with some complications. In their first meeting, the Raiders fell 13-38 to Tennessee, and then won in the second week against St. Louis by the minimum margin. Oakland failed to overcome the next two games. The fifth week Oakland won over the San Diego Chargers 35-27, only to be crushed by San Francisco 17-9 in the sixth game. The Raiders were back in track for the seventh week after beating the Broncos 59-14 in Denver.

Compared with the Raiders, the Seattle Seahawks are a team with little success. They hold an NFC Conference Championship (2005) and six divisional championships (2 in the AFC West and NFC West 4). Seattle is a team that has had an irregular performance competition in the NFL

After several years, the Seahawks finally made it to the Super Bowl XL (2006). The Pittsburgh Steelers 10-21 defeated the Seahawks for the Championship Game. But the team from the Pacific West has been struggling since. Seattle began the season with an excellent 31-6 victory against San Francisco Giants. Confident that they could do the same to the next opponent, the Seahawks took too many risks and fell 31-14 to Denver Broncos. The third week gives Seattle a little break to beat San Diego 27-20. The fourth meeting was a disaster for Seattle, with a score 20-3, St. Louis’s wiped off the pitch.

After their bye week, the Seahawks recover and got two wins in a row.

In the NFL’s eighth week, the Raiders faced the Seahawks. At this meeting, Oakland was far more dominant with one of the best defenses they’ve had in several years.

In the Oakland Coliseum, the Raiders controlled the game from the start, pushed their opponents, who could not keep the ball in his possession until after 27 minutes.

In the first quarter Oakland went ahead 3-0 on the scoreboard with a 31-yard field goal by Sebastian Janikowski. Marcel Reece extended the lead to a 10-0 with a 30-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

The Seahawks were unable to do anything when they had the ball on their hands, as the Raiders’ strong offensive kept them from moving the chains. In the third quarter Oakland raised its score to 13-0 thanks to another field goal by Janikowski.

Early into the fourth period, Janikowski scored another field goal and made it 16-0. Less than a minute later Darrius Heyward-Bay marks a touchdown for Oakland, to extend the distance at 23-0. Olindo Mare completed a field goal for the Seahawks only score in the game. Oakland did not give up and another field goal and a late touchdown closed the game at 33-3.

Oakland, which is second in the AFC West with a winning percentage of .500, scored a total of 545 yards, while Seattle in the first place in the NFC West with .571, managed only 162 yards in the game.

NFL- Seattle Seahawks Hired Schneider And Carroll For a New Beginning

The Seattle Seahawks are looking for a new beginning. Last week, they hired Pete Carroll from USC to be their new head coach, replacing Jim Mora, and then hired the Green Bay Packers football operations director John Schneider as General Manager. Schneider was a candidate for the head coach position initially, but was surpassed by Peter Carroll for Carroll’s more aggressive style of coaching. Schneider was then brought to Seattle as General Manager; the Seahawks headquarters feel that he will have the right chemistry to manage the team with Carroll. Carroll was introduced to the team and media on January 15th; since then, although he was kindly received by both the fans and the team staff, he hasn’t had time to breathe. The Seahawks immediately began the search for a new General Manager Carroll has had an odd history. After he was fired by the New England Patriots in 1999, he didn’t expect to be hired again on the NFL. However, he began a brand new football program with USC, restoring the dynasty there. The USC football program is now one of the best in the country. More recently, Carroll was interviewed by Seahawks chief executive officer Tod Leiweke, who offered him the Seahawks coaching position with executive benefits. The team desperately needed help; in the last two years, it has only won 9 games. Carroll may be the man to turn the team around. “I know that Paul Allen wants to win, and he doesn’t want to just win once in a while. He wants to win from now on,” Carroll said. “To me, that fits exactly with the way I think, and the way I’ve tried to present our football in recent years. It’s hard to imagine that the standards could be set so high, where you’re only judged by perfection. I have embraced that thought.” Allen is the team’s current owner. Part of the Microsoft Corporation, Allen bought the team in 1997; he was also at the team headquarters on Tuesday to welcome Carroll.

This week, on Wednesday, the team introduced John Schneider, hoping to end the rumors and suspicions that surrounded the GM position. According to Leiweke, the immediate connection and chemistry between Carroll and Schneider in last week’s interview finalized the decision. Their similar philosophies and perspectives can only had cohesion to the team. Schneider will be replacing Tim Ruskell. The Seahawks forced Ruskell to resign as GM and president just a month ago after the team’s poor performance this season. The Seahawks had a record of 5-11 for the regular season, lost their last four games, and missed the playoffs and so a chance at the Super Bowl. Schneider began his career in the NFL as a college intern. He became the Packers’ director of operations in May 2008 and acted as the top personnel assistant to the Packers’ GM for the six previous years. In 2000, he acted as Seattle’s director of player personnel. Schneider, along with Carroll, is expected to turn the Seahawks around.
